WSIB as in the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board is an independent trust agency that provides compensation and no-fault insurance for Ontario workplaces. The way it works is that a worker needs to place a claim in an incident of any kind. For example a worker can make a personal injury claim or a work accident claim.

Tips for effective WSIB Claims management:

  • Report injuries on time at workplace :

Each jurisdiction has a certain set time limit, before you which it is required by the injured worker to report an incident. You need to make sure you follow those guidelines and start by immediately reporting an incident.

  • Responsibilities of the Organization at workplace:

It is also required that the organization reports the incident once they are aware of it. The injured worker is required to report it either to his employer or the supervisor as soon as possible. Hence once the employer is aware they are considered informed of the incident and thus need to report it.

  • Documentation for workplace injury:

Since it is the employer’s responsibility to report the incident on time; maintaining proper documentation in line with the legislated standard will only go towards helping your case.

  • Information to provide for workplace injury:

The worker should make sure not to leave out any small detail while reporting an incident. Besides mentioning about the incident in detail he should also include facts about his pre-existing condition and the situation in which the current incident took place to provide a better understanding to the work accident claims board.

  • Communication between the injured and the employer:

Ideally the employer should contact the injured worker as soon as he becomes aware of the incident. He should also maintain communication with the injured worker while he is away or at work. Proper communication is the first step towards resolving a difficult situation.

  • Arranging alternative work at workplace :

  • Once the injured worker is treated for his injuries and has recovered (this may take from a few days to months) it is possible that he may temporality not be able to perform his regular duties due to his injuries.
  • At this time the employer should make arrangements for alternative work and help out in that manner. At times it is also possible that the injured may have a long term injury in which case he may need to be assigned a different task all together on a more permanent basis.
  • Recovery process of the Worker at workplace:

The employer should be actively involved in the healing process of the worker. He should make sure he is aware of the operations or surgeries that need to be performed and when. Besides which he should be constantly aware of the state of the worker and encourage him to get well soon.
